NYSATE Section 6 - 2008 Engineer of the Year
Martin E. Butler has been named the 2008 Engineer of the Year for NYSATE Section 6.
Mr. Butler began his career with the Monroe County Water Authority. After a short tenure with Christa Construction, Marty joined the NYS Department of Transportation in 1993. While at the DOT, he has served in a variety of capacities including project scoping, construction inspection, local projects liaison, and Assistant to the Regional Director. Most recently, Marty took on the newly created job of Performance and Asset Management.
Marty has been active in NYSATE since joining the Association in 1993. He has assisted with Section 4's Mini-Conference, and has worked on various committees in Section 6. Marty is always willing to lend a hand and has been active with sectional activities such as the 200 Club Dinners. This past summer, Marty organized the highly successful "Transportation Dogs" lunch-time hot dog stand as a fund-raiser for the 69th Annual Conference. Marty is also a member of the 2009 Conference Steering Committee.
Marty is active in the community activities of his adopted home town of Hornell. He is a member of the Hornell Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks and the Hornell YMCA. Marty can be seen refereeing games during the Gus Maker Basketball Tournament, and has participated in the Corporate Challenge as a member of the DOT Road Warriors. Marty is a member of the YMCA Board of Directors and the Capital Improvement Facilities Committee. This committee is responsible for the oversight, planning and construction of a new multi-million dollar YMCA in the City of Hornell.
Marty and his wife Linda live in Hornell with their three teenage boys. They keep busy in their spare time, with the restoration of an old house.
