NYSATE Section 11 - Transportation Professional of the Year
Section 11’s - Main Office Transportation Professional of the Year for 2012 is Arthur P. Yannotti, P.E. Art has been a very active member of Section 11 and the Association for more than 25 years. Art has supported NYSATE by serving in many capacities and offices in Section 11 as Local Director, Alternate State Director, Vice President, President and State Director. Art also served Section 11 as the Treasurer for Conference 59 in 1999 and as the Technical Program Chair for Conference 70 in 2010. While on the State Board, Art served as Assistant Financial Secretary and chaired the Training and Education Committee. As chair of the Training and Education Committee, Art spearheaded NYSATE’s efforts establishing the continuing education program so that PDH’s were available at our annual Conferences for the first time ever. Art also was responsible for the update to the NYSATE Training Manual that is available on our website. Art was Section 11's NYSATE Engineer of the Year in 1996.
On a professional level, Art has served the Department with distinction, beginning his career in Structures as an Assistant Squad Leader to his current position as Deputy Chief Engineer (Structures). As DOT’s Bridge Engineer, Art is responsible for all aspects of the NYS bridge system including their design, fabrication control, construction support, quality assurance and bridge inspection; supervising a staff of more than 160 Engineers and technicians. Art also served on AASHTO’s Bridge Committee and several other technical committees on steel structures, bridge inspection and preservation. Art has also been responsible for developing national codes and standards. Art has won multiple awards including NYSDOT’s Excellence in Engineering Award (1992 & 2001), NYSDOT Recognition of Employee Excellence and AASHTO Service Awards.
Art has always been a dedicated and involved member in his Adirondack community in Queensbury, New York. Art volunteered his professional services designing and constructing two trail bridges for the North Country Scenic Trails. Art has been involved with several youth organizations: volunteering as coach for the Queensbury Little League, as a committee member and organizer of the annual Pinewood derby for several years for Cub Scout Pack #2 in Glens Falls, working with local high school students in the Queensbury, South Glen Fall and North Creek Schools organizing the annual model bridge contest during Engineer’s Week and/or making presentations on bridge engineering. Art has also served as Vice President of the St. Alphonsus Home School Association - organizing several fund raisers including the annual Florida citrus sale. Art has been invited as the guests’ speaker to local community groups and Rotary sharing his vast knowledge of bridges on many occasions. Art has been a neighborhood volunteer for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and is a member of Our Lady of the Annunciation Church where he serves as a Lector and Collection Counter.
Art has been married for more than 32 years to his wife Nancy and they are the proud parents of three children and four grandchildren. Art enjoys many outdoor recreational activities which include golfing and hiking. Art and Nancy are Adirondack 46ers. Art has had a lifetime interest in bridges and engineering to which he has devoted his career.
Section 11 is very proud to have such a dedicated and committed member as Art as our Transportation Professional of the Year for 2012.
